The God Argument

The post contains sensitive material and the advice here is to take it as an argument rather than a theory. Please take note that this is my opinion only and not written to satisfy the majority of the populace. People who feel offended midway through the article, please stop reading it.

"God"- A word that figures prominently in any list of controversies. A believer of 'God' is quite acceptable, while in the case of a non-believer, his minor disadvantages start showing. To start with : When humans first stepped forth on Earth, they were clueless about their environment. Over the course of time, they learned to hunt, to cook, look after their family and most importantly, survive. But they soon realized that they were missing something. What could it be? The human brain is a complex thing, having undergone rapid changes in the process of evolution. Its ability to think transcended many dimensions. It started to draw out complex connections. This resulted in the 'God concept'.

In ancient times, when mankind had no kind of technological support, they needed something to fall upon during their times of crisis. 'God' offered the infallibility to the human race. Reasoning deeply is something the humans chanced to hit upon last. Before that, when humans needed answers, they had the 'God concept'. It gifted that 'extra something' the humans seemingly lacked. As humans developed, few began to doubt and question the 'God concept'. Confusion started to prevail. The situation was resolved by quietening the 'few'. However, problems cannot be solve just by quietening them. The non-believers became more intelligent. They learned to keep their thoughts to themselves and tread a different path.

History took a turn for the worse when humans felt the need for more 'Gods' and wasted no time in creating them. It was pandemonium and stability was attained after a long period of time. I am actually trying to view Jesus at a different angle. He might actually have been a human, most probably a medicine man with a good heart. He was revered by the people around him. Situations and opportunities made him super-human, who ended up being son of God. It gave people hope in their lives. His 'teachings' guided them. However, perceptions vary and humans made him 'God' for reasons that cannot be comprehended. A majority of people were so blinded by their 'God concept' that they failed to see the real reason behind such a happening. They were in fact, happy to accept it. Similarly, Mohammed conveyed messages to people for their well being. But, he might have had enemies. What could he do? He needed his messages to stay on and create an impact that could be sustained for very long time. So, he connected the messages to Allah, another 'God concept'. People are always curious for the mysterious and they hopped onto the 'Allah' bandwagon. Other 'God concepts', especially in Hinduism, are so many, that I feel a similar angle is very much possible! I cannot describe them here partly due to the fact that I could write a whole book on it!

This post is based partly on my imagination and partly on an argument which I had in my MBA class.

  1. It would have been better if the complicated part of the brain never existed!!! :)
